BusyBee

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026

BusyBee helps families share chores and rewards. Parents set up the app and kids use it on a parent's phone. We built it to keep as little about your family as we can, and to keep it only for your family.

The short version

  • Task photos never leave the phone they were taken on.
  • Only the parents in your hive can see your family's information.
  • No ads, no tracking, and we never sell or share your data.
  • Kids don't have accounts, email addresses or passwords.
  • You can delete your account and your family's information at any time, from inside the app.

What stays on your phone

  • Task photos. When a kid takes a photo of a finished job, it's saved only in BusyBee's private storage on that phone. It's never uploaded. Once a parent approves the task or asks for it to be redone, the photo is deleted.
  • Kid mode. Which kid is using the phone is remembered on that phone only.

What we keep in the cloud, and why

Your hive is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), so both parents can see the same tasks from their own phones:

  • About you (the parent): your name and email address, from your sign-up or Google account, and whether the kids call you Mom or Dad.
  • About your hive: the family name you chose, an invite code, and your parent PIN. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of the PIN, never the PIN itself.
  • About each kid: the first name or nickname you type, a buddy emoji, a colour and their honey points. You don't need to use their real name.
  • Tasks and treats: task names, points, due dates, whether a task is done, a short note if your kid adds one, and your feedback. Also the treats you create and which ones were bought.
  • That a photo exists: just a yes/no flag, never the photo.

Firebase Authentication handles signing in. If you use Google sign-in, Google tells us your name and email address and nothing else.

Who can see it

  • Only the parents who belong to your hive. Our security rules block everyone else, including other BusyBee families.
  • Google runs the servers as our service provider. It processes the data only to run BusyBee, under the Firebase data processing terms.
  • We don't sell, rent or share your information with anyone else. We don't use it for advertising.

What we don't do

  • No ads and no ad networks.
  • No analytics, tracking or profiling.
  • No location, contacts or microphone access.
  • We use the camera only when your kid taps "Take a photo".

Children

BusyBee is meant to be set up and managed by parents. Kids never sign up, never give an email address or password, and can't contact anyone through the app. A parent decides what is entered about a kid, and can change or delete it at any time. Leaving kid mode needs the parent PIN.

If you think a child's information was entered without a parent's permission, contact us and we'll delete it.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information for as long as you have a BusyBee account.

To delete everything, go to Family → Delete my account in the app. This removes:

  • your sign-in account and your profile
  • if you're the only parent in the hive: the whole hive with every kid, task and treat
  • if your partner is still in the hive: only you are removed, and the hive stays for them
  • the task photos saved on that phone

Deleting is permanent and starts straight away. If you can't open the app, email us and we'll delete your account for you.

Security

Data travels encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) and is stored by Google Firebase. Access is limited by sign-in and security rules. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what's stored small on purpose.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and show the new version in the app before it applies to you.
